Background

Since 2004 Maxine Mimms Academies has been striving to break down educational and economical barriers, initially for students in the Tacoma and Pierce County, WA, communities. We've now expanded to serve the greater Puget Sound area.

Our original emphasis focused on students who had either been suspended or expelled or had dropped out of Tacoma public schools.

From 2012 we have been developing additional criteria regarding workforce development, post-traumatic stress disorder and urban agriculture. Our urban agriculture curriculum is available for implementation anywhere after a brief training curriculum.

Maxine Mimms Academies has developed several alternative innovated methods to better serve the education of youth. By providing a team of trainers to help target populations with live webinars, workshops, and web based E- training.

Our agency's educational structure was instrumental in the Achievement Gap research study and endorsed by the Tacoma Urban League. Maxine Mimms Academies has received grants, gifts, and donations, from public and private sector funding sources in support of its interdisciplinary approach to education.
